About Norestin
Norestin contains norethisterone, a progestogen. At the doses used for menstrual problems, it acts on the pituitary gland to suppress ovulation and reduces the body's own production of oestrogen and progesterone.
Norestin is used to treat dysfunctional uterine bleeding and heavy or frequent periods. It is also used to postpone a period and to treat pre-menstrual syndrome.
Norestin is for women and should only be used when prescribed by a doctor.
How to use
Take Norestin by mouth exactly as your doctor has told you. The usual doses are given below; your doctor will decide the dose and how long your treatment lasts.
- Dysfunctional uterine bleeding, heavy or frequent periods: one 5 mg tablet three times a day for 10 days. To prevent the problem coming back, one tablet twice a day from day 19 to day 26 of the next two cycles.
- Postponement of menstruation: one 5 mg tablet three times a day, starting 3 days before the period is expected.
- Pre-menstrual syndrome: one 5 mg tablet a day from day 16 to day 25 of the cycle.
If a period does not follow a course of treatment, pregnancy must be ruled out before further treatment.
