Product information

About Todexa

Todexa contains two medicines. Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that kills bacteria. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness and swelling.

Todexa is used for inflammatory conditions of the eye where a corticosteroid is needed and there is an infection with bacteria, or a risk of such an infection, including after eye surgery.

Todexa is a sterile eye drop for use in the eye only, as advised by a doctor.

How to use

Use Todexa exactly as your doctor has told you.

  1. The usual dose is one or two drops in the affected eye every four to six hours. Your doctor may advise more frequent drops for the first day or two.
  2. Wash your hands first. Tilt your head back, pull the lower eyelid down gently and put the drop in the pocket formed, then close the eye for a moment.
  3. If you use other eye drops or ointments, wait at least 5 minutes between each medicine. Do not let the tip of the bottle touch the eye or anything else.
  4. Do not wear contact lenses while you are using Todexa unless your doctor says you can.

Do not stop treatment early, and do not use Todexa for longer than your doctor advises.

Side effects and warnings

Like all medicines, Todexa can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common are eye irritation, discomfort, itching and redness.

  • Do not use Todexa if you are allergic to tobramycin, other aminoglycoside antibiotics, dexamethasone or any of the other ingredients.
  • Do not use Todexa if you have a viral infection of the eye such as herpes simplex, a fungal infection or a tuberculosis infection of the eye.
  • Using steroid eye drops for a long time can raise the pressure in the eye, lead to glaucoma or cataract, and slow healing. Your doctor may check your eye pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, a thin cornea or an eye injury, or if your symptoms do not improve.
  • Your vision may be blurred for a short while after the drop. Do not drive or use machines until it clears.
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor before using Todexa.

Always read the patient information leaflet in the pack. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
