About Nenac
Nenac contains nepafenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAID) for the eye. Nepafenac is converted in the eye into amfenac, which reduces the substances that cause pain and swelling.
Nenac is used to treat pain and inflammation after cataract surgery, and to lower the risk of swelling at the back of the eye (macular oedema) after cataract surgery in patients with diabetes.
Nenac is a sterile eye suspension for use in the eye only, as advised by an eye doctor.
How to use
Use Nenac exactly as your doctor has told you. Shake the bottle well before each use.
- The usual dose is one drop in the affected eye three times a day, starting the day before surgery, on the day of surgery and for as long as your doctor advises after surgery.
- Wash your hands first. Tilt your head back, pull the lower eyelid down gently and put the drop in the pocket formed, then close the eye for a moment.
- If you use other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between each medicine. Do not let the tip of the bottle touch the eye or anything else.
- Take out contact lenses before using Nenac and wait 15 minutes before putting them back.
Throw the bottle away 28 days after first opening it, even if some liquid is left.

Side effects and warnings
Like all medicines, Nenac can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common are eye irritation, a feeling of something in the eye and blurred vision for a short while after the drop.
- Do not use Nenac if you are allergic to nepafenac or to any of the other ingredients, or if you have had an allergic reaction to aspirin or other NSAIDs.
- Tell your doctor if you bruise or bleed easily, take medicines that thin the blood, have dry eyes, or have diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or repeated eye surgery.
- Using NSAID eye drops can slow healing of the surface of the eye. Tell your doctor if your eye becomes more painful, red or watery.
- Your vision may be blurred for a short while after the drop. Do not drive or use machines until it clears.
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor before using Nenac.
Always read the patient information leaflet in the pack. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
