Product information

About Mokkida

Mokkida contains montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It blocks leukotrienes, substances in the body that cause narrowing and swelling of the airways and trigger allergy symptoms.

Mokkida is used for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma, to prevent breathing difficulty brought on by exercise, and to relieve the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis such as sneezing and a runny or blocked nose.

Mokkida comes as a 5 mg chewable tablet, a 10 mg tablet and a 4 mg oral sachet, so the right form can be chosen for the patient's age. It should only be used as advised by a doctor.

How to use

Take Mokkida once a day, exactly as your doctor has told you. For asthma, take it in the evening, with or without food.

  1. Adults and adolescents 15 years and over: one 10 mg tablet once a day.
  2. Children 6 to 14 years: one 5 mg chewable tablet once a day. Chew it before swallowing.
  3. Children 6 months to 5 years: one 4 mg oral sachet once a day. The granules can be given straight into the mouth or mixed with a spoonful of cold or room-temperature soft food, and the whole dose taken within 15 minutes.
  4. To prevent breathing difficulty caused by exercise, take one dose at least 2 hours before exercise and do not take an extra dose within 24 hours.

Keep taking Mokkida even when you have no symptoms, and also during times when your asthma gets worse, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Side effects and warnings

Like all medicines, Mokkida can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common are headache, stomach pain, diarrhoea and cold or flu-like symptoms.

  • Do not take Mokkida if you are allergic to montelukast or any of the other ingredients.
  • Mokkida is not for treating a sudden asthma attack. Always keep your quick-relief inhaler with you.
  • Tell your doctor straight away if you or your child notice changes in mood or behaviour, such as agitation, aggression, low mood, bad dreams, sleep problems, hallucinations or thoughts of self-harm.
  • Do not stop other asthma medicines, including steroids, unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Tell your doctor if you get a rash, pins and needles or numbness in the arms or legs, or worsening breathing symptoms.
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor before taking Mokkida. If you have phenylketonuria, check the leaflet in the pack before taking the chewable tablet.

Always read the patient information leaflet in the pack. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
