About Mistek
Mistek contains misoprostol, a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analogue. It protects the lining of the stomach and makes the muscle of the womb (uterus) contract.
Mistek is used to reduce the risk of stomach ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in patients at high risk. It is also used in obstetrics and gynaecology, under the supervision of a specialist doctor.
Mistek is a prescription-only medicine and should only be used as advised by a doctor.
How to use
Take Mistek exactly as your doctor has told you. The dose depends on the reason it has been prescribed.
- To reduce the risk of NSAID-induced stomach ulcers: the usual dose is one 200 mcg tablet four times a day, with food, for as long as you take the NSAID.
- If this dose is not well tolerated, your doctor may reduce it to 100 mcg four times a day.
- For obstetric and gynaecological use, the dose and timing are set by the specialist doctor and must be followed exactly.
- Take the last dose of the day at bedtime.
Do not take more than your doctor has prescribed, and do not share Mistek with anyone else.

- Do not take Mistek if you are allergic to misoprostol, other prostaglandins or any of the other ingredients.
- Women who could become pregnant should use effective contraception while taking Mistek for stomach protection.
- Tell your doctor if you have heavy vaginal bleeding, severe stomach pain, or a history of epilepsy, heart disease or inflammatory bowel disease.
- Seek medical help straight away if you have very heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, fever or a rash after taking Mistek.
Always read the patient information leaflet in the pack. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
