About C-Gest
C-Gest contains dydrogesterone, a man-made progestogen that is active when taken by mouth. It acts on the lining of the womb in a similar way to the body's own progesterone, preparing it in the second half of the menstrual cycle.
C-Gest is used to treat endometriosis and threatened or habitual (repeated) miscarriage linked to a lack of progesterone. It is also used to support the second half of the cycle in infertility caused by low progesterone, and as luteal support during assisted reproduction treatment.
C-Gest is for women and should only be used when prescribed by a doctor.
How to use
Take C-Gest by mouth exactly as your doctor has told you. The usual doses are given below; your doctor will decide the dose and how long your treatment lasts.
- Endometriosis: one to three 10 mg tablets a day, from day 5 to day 25 of the cycle or continuously. Higher doses are spread through the day.
- Threatened miscarriage: four 10 mg tablets (40 mg) at once, then one 10 mg tablet every 8 hours. Your doctor will adjust the dose and reduce it slowly once symptoms settle.
- Habitual miscarriage: one 10 mg tablet a day until week 20 of pregnancy, after which the dose can be reduced gradually.
- Infertility due to low progesterone: one 10 mg tablet a day from day 14 to day 25 of the cycle, for at least six cycles in a row.
- Luteal support in assisted reproduction: three 10 mg tablets a day, starting after egg collection and continuing for 10 weeks of pregnancy.
